Who is the Knicks Best Player 2022?
With the 2022 NBA offseason over and the Knicks set to tip off the 2022-23 season, it's time to assess their entire roster. The team has been solid top-to-bottom, but special recognition is due to two players: Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.
The Knicks are one of the most popular franchises in sports, mainly due to their location and passionate fan base. They have a strong history of success, including two titles out of 8 NBA Finals appearances, and have built a reputation for developing players who are synonymous with their name.
This year, the team made a splash in free agency by signing PG Jalen Brunson to a three-year, $15.0 million deal. The 23-year-old has already established himself as one of the best players in the Association, averaging 22.8 points and 5.4 assists.
When he's on the floor, Brunson is 100 percent effort. He always puts in the work and never lets a game slip away. It's a big reason why the Knicks have been one of the most efficient teams in the NBA this season, scoring 30 or more points in six of their 15 games.
A year after he won the NBA Most Improved Player award, Randle is putting together a great season. The Knicks' second-highest-posted player has a lot of things going for him, but the most important is that he's playing at an elite level.
He's averaging 24.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists on 54.8 percent shooting from two-point range and 33.4 percent from three-point land. His efficiency numbers are similar to his 2020-21 campaign, but he's hit the rim better and taken more shots at an elite rate.
How this turnaround happened needs to be clarified, but it's impressive that the Knicks are a much better team with Randle on the floor. His impact is so significant that New York nets 3.1 points per 100 possessions more when he's on the court.
In his fourth season, Barrett has become a top-tier player. However, he has yet to develop into a consistent scorer, which will be the key to becoming an NBA All-Star.
To be considered an All-Star, a player must have at least 20 points per game and be shooting over 40 percent from three. That's not easy, but if Barrett can achieve that, he will have accomplished what many players before him have done.
He's a talented young two-way wing who can guard the opposition's star player while being a solid offensive piece in his own right. He's a player who should have a breakout 2022-2023 season and become a force on the court.
Immanuel Quickly has been among the most underrated Knicks in the last few years. He had a solid rookie season, but it's been difficult for him to find consistent playing time and develop.
H's started the last six games and has been a critical player, averaging 21.5 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds. He's a great fit in Tom Thibodaux's system, with chemistry with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle and being able to play both on the ball and off it.
His emergence is a significant change for the team. He's a much better defensive player than RJ Barrett and a legitimate offense creator off the bench. He's a good bet to earn more minutes this year and would provide an excellent option for the Knicks at the trade deadline should they find an additional ball-handler.
